CPA vs. Affiliate Marketing: It’s a debate for the ages. And for a lot of people who failed to get affiliate marketing to work, but succeeded in CPA, the choice is obvious to them which strategy wins.
But when you talk to some of the top Internet marketers today like Frank Kern, Perry Marshall, and many others who made their living from affiliate marketing, there is no doubt, that strategy is profitable. So really the question is;
What strategy is right, and what strategy is wrong? The answer to this question is, drum roll please…
Neither!
CPA marketing has been around for many years, but it wasn’t until 3-4 years ago when it really started to catch fire with both successful and struggling Internet marketers because of forward thinking CPA pioneers like Amish Shah and his introduction of this profitable business to the online community.
I know a few CPA enthusiasts who believe running a CPA business is much easier than affiliate marketing because it’s so much simpler for people to take actions that don’t require them to use their credit card for YOU to make money.
Another undeniable benefit of CPA is the instant results and responses you get from basic zip and email submit forms. Ok so it’s a few dollars per day profit, but that few dollars is certainly enough to inspire anyone to take that success and scale it — affiliate marketing usually requires much more patience and resilience to receive results.
CPA marketing is a great business strategy and it’s the rave in the IM community at this time, but in fairness let’s uncover what makes affiliate marketing a strong “contender” in this contest to see which business model is the best for you:
We’ve all heard, “The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward”. This statement is not always the absolute truth, but in my personal experience it’s fairly accurate. The more risk you’re willing to take, the more money and higher profit margins are typically your return.
In this head to head example, let’s say you have an affiliate product paying out $30 per sale in commissions. Compare that to a common CPA campaign set-up, it would take 30 people to take a specific action ($1.00 per zip/email submit) to get what it only took ONE person to do with the $30 sale.
Another advantage with affiliate marketing you’re not at the mercy of the CPA merchant. Which means you rarely need to call anyone to get their approval to get set-up and making money.
We have explored the “positives and negatives” with both CPA and Affiliate Marketing. If you are just starting out, I recommend CPA because the motivation to keep at it and succeed grows with every small success. As you start to make money with CPA, branch out into affiliate marketing to diversify your online income.
